Purple and violet sapphires are rarer than the most common colours such as blue, pink, yellow, or white. Usually, since it is very hard to draw a boundary between pink sapphires and purple sapphires, many purple sapphires are sold as pink sapphires. This is equally true for violet sapphires as well. They are most often categorised as blue sapphires.
However, identifying these two distinguishable and beautiful shades of colours are very useful in jewellery design.
